Squid and cuttlefish fishing is part of Salou's seafaring tradition. It's usually done at sunset or after dark, when cephalopods rise towards the surface to feed.
The technique combines squid jigs (specialist barbless hooks for squid) and cuttlefish jigs (lures for cuttlefish) with a little patience and the unique magic of the Mediterranean dusk. A relaxed, foodie and highly photogenic outing — combinable with a sunset trip.

Squid
European squid (Loligo vulgaris). Regular catches at sunset. Exquisite meat, with ink perfect for rice dishes.
Cuttlefish
Common cuttlefish (Sepia officinalis). Bigger than squid. A flagship dish of the Mediterranean.
Octopus
Occasional catches over rocky bottoms. Octopus vulgaris. Firm meat and highly prized.
Flying squid
Larger squid (Todarodes sagittatus). Seasonal catches. Excellent for cooking.
Small cuttlefish
Little cuttlefish, ideal for frying whole. Frequent catches in mixed-bottom areas.
Baby squid
Young squid, perfect for tapas. Common catches with small squid jigs.
