Bluefin tuna chumming, also known as big game, is arguably the most thrilling sport fishing experience in Spain.
The technique consists of casting a continuous trail of bait (chunks of sardine or gilt sardine) that creates a feeding slick which draws large tunas up to the prepared rods. An experience designed for anglers chasing pure adrenaline in the open waters of the Catalan Mediterranean.

Giant bluefin tuna
The main target. Catches of fish in the 100–300 kg range. An epic fight lasting 30 min to several hours.
Young bluefin tuna
Fish of 30–80 kg readily available in season. An intense but more manageable fight.
Shortfin mako
A pelagic shark that turns up in the chum slick. Mandatory catch and release.
Swordfish
An occasional catch on night or dusk drifts. Fish of 40–150 kg.
Atlantic bonito
A smaller tuna (3–8 kg) that's abundant in summer. Good practice for big-game beginners.
Dorado (mahi-mahi)
A colourful, hard-fighting pelagic. Comes into the chum slick in summer and autumn.

Arrival at the marina. Boarding and a technical briefing on rods, reels and fighting the fish.
Heading into open water
30–60 min of cruising in search of deep water (200–500 m) where bluefin tuna live.
Starting the chum slick
The skipper casts the continuous trail of bait. The boat is set up to drift and the rods are placed.
Fishing and fighting
We wait for the take — it can come in minutes or hours. When the reel screams, the battle begins.
Catch and release
To preserve the species, we practise catch and release with bluefin tuna (subject to annual quotas).
Back to harbour
A relaxed cruise back to Salou. You take home the trophy photos and a memory for life.
