Tuna spinning is an intense and adrenaline-filled day that takes advantage of the natural behaviour of big predators: when tuna and little tunny push schools of small fish to the surface, seagulls dive creating what's known as a bird flock.
The skipper spots these bird flocks and approaches at speed so you cast your lure at the exact moment. Pure visual hunting on the open Catalan Mediterranean.

Young bluefin tuna
Specimens of 30–80 kg. An intense fight, but more manageable than big-game chumming.
Little tunny XXL
A native Mediterranean tuna. Catches of 5–15 kg. A thrilling fight on the rod.
Atlantic bonito
Smaller (3–8 kg) but plentiful. A great fighter and excellent training for spinning.
Bullet tuna
A small, combative tuna. Frequent catches in summer feeding frenzies.
Dolphinfish
Colourful, hard-fighting pelagic. Joins the bird-working schools in summer-autumn.
Pomfret
Mediterranean sailfish. An occasional and very technical catch on spinning.

We look for active bird flocks: diving gulls signal that tuna are driving baitfish up.
Location
When we spot a flock of feeding birds, the skipper approaches at a good speed so as not to scare off the fish.
Cast and retrieve
You cast your lure at the edge of the feeding-bird flock. You retrieve with movement. If you get a bite: hold on tight.
Fight and catch
An intense 10–30 min fight depending on size. The skipper handles the boat to avoid tangles.
Back to port
An easy cruise back. Trophy photos and a day you won't forget.
